Marketing Newbie Checklist

There is something to looking into the future and planning backwards. Once you see the future things change. Take a look at these planning tips that I learned in Alex Jeffreys coaching program to produce results.

The first thing I needed to know was what I wanted to get out of this online business. I asked myself the “why?” and how much I wanted to make. Next, when I wanted to make set amounts.

I used a blueprint starting with 12 months. Not an easy task because I am learning the business tasks along the way! I managed to identify several main goals to complete by July of 2010. I then worked backwards and split the plan into quarters. I kept going, 1 month plan, weekly plan and finally the daily plan!

Here are my completed results so far:

Step 1: Get a Domain (address)

Step 2: Get Hosting (Internet Real Estate)

Step 3: Setup WordPress (Foundation for my internet home)

Step 4: Upload my Favorite Theme (My design)

Step 5: Add Plug-ins (Necessary internet living features)

Step 6: Post 1st Blog < Hello > Heads-up or Duck!

Step 7: Is anyone out there? (Install Ultimate Google Analytics)

Let me know what you think! I know my little analogies attached to the steps are corny, but it works for me!

Focus – Changing Your Mindset

I have awakened to the fact that I have been distracted easily while surfing the internet. I did not realize how much time was wasted unnecessarily surfing from here to there.  Before embarking on Alex Jeffreys course I can remember drifting from site to site. One stop specifically caught my attention with fish of all things. After playing with the fish awhile and looking at the clock afterwards the realization of how quick time zipped past me set in.  I have decided to include those fish here as a reminder. These fish or any flashy distraction will not keep me focused on my Online Internet Marketing plans.

Those darn gadgets! Okay, it is time for a new mindset. I have been busy cleaning up my work area. No more shortcuts taking up my desktop screen. Yes, a little over half my screen had shortcuts I never revisited … GONE … Just a sign of a messy mind and no focus! I’m working on my personal, entrepreneur and business goals. I have been doing a brain dump and getting everything on paper. Whew! My mind is cluttered; next task is organizing these thoughts and bringing structure. I have added my personal pledge to the About Julie page; take a look if you haven’t seen it yet!

As Mentor Alex said, “Small actions everyday lead to results.”

Online Marketing Business Basics

The key thing about online marketing is this, marketing is a business. Don’t get caught up in the hype and fads lurking around the internet. The basics of marketing are only a part of your business not the business.

Successful running businesses are structured to concentrate on forward moving projects. From the beginning you must build and keep a strategy in place. This is not to say things are carved in stone. It means you run a timeline with deadlines with the understanding that parts are in motion and fluid.

The internet is not in the infant stage anymore. The masses have access and countless numbers of people are able to access the internet now. We have moved beyond the pure newness phase.  I am sure I don’t have to tell anyone that business across all fields of the market place are adapting to this new way of communicating. This new era in marketing has an advantage of creating systems which will run on autopilot. There are proven and tested systems already taking shape online.

This is one of the many things I realize during my first session in Alex Jeffreys coaching program. The program title itself “Marketing with Alex: We’re marketing with you and for you …” shows the change.  When I was listening to Alex through the first webinar I was doing other things. I remember thinking that I know this! Nothing new so far! Later after soaking in all the information I had the realization that hype and fads were still gripping me.  I liked the infant stage and newness of the internet and did not want to give those feeling up. But wait! Hold on! I also realized that I could be a part of this growing phase and have fun and experience this slice of the internet experience.

When I look back to my first post it is pretty funny. I posted of the newbie dream, I didn’t even know what that was, and maybe it was a fog with stardust in the air. Well, not anymore I am ready to start rewiring my thoughts and experience a different lifestyle.  Haaaaa, yes I still want to be able to wake up naturally every morning on my schedule.

UBD Money Theme – Newbie Friendly

Time for action, my learning just got easier. Unique Blog Designs released a new free Wordpress Theme called UBD Money Theme. This should make learning online marketing easier. I can now focus on learning and taking action.

I have entered into the trap of information overload. At least this new Money Theme will take some stress out of integrating Twitter and Facebook. I have been sidetracked trying to create the perfect blog site. Is there such at thing? Maybe you can share your thoughts.

I’m going for a functional site to learn the fundamentals! Oh, and my PayPal newbie story! It is embarrassing to some extent. So, here it goes…

You can see I like Affiliate Theme. When I went to become an affiliate it asked for my PayPal account. No problem right! I have had an account for years, but I only use it for a bridge between my conventional bank account and online purchases. I’m sure everyone can see where this is going. I went to PayPal to get my account number. It was nowhere to be found. I looked within my account profile and FAQ for help. Then I called PayPal and bumped into a Newbie at PayPal and was given a long account number. It bothered me so I looked at my old email confirmations and didn’t see this number anywhere. I called PayPal back and voila it is my email :–)

This is one of the reasons Alex Jeffreys has come into my life. What a waste of time on something so simple. Mentors offline are a great source so why not online?

Heads-up or Duck!

Whew! My first post …

Heads-up or Duck! I have joined a Coaching Program with Alex Jeffreys.

Yes, I’m a newbie with dreams. However, I’m not so new that I haven’t been procrastinating for a couple years on the sidelines. Just to give you an idea the first coaching webinar was awesome. Yes, there is homework and yes I want to have a lifestyle where I wake up naturally!

I will post more on the webinar. I even have a silly newbie story about PayPal that I will share. But, just a quick shout out to Affiliate Theme. Wow, this helped me zip together my first blog.

Here is a little bit about the product take a peek!

Affiliate Theme

I purchased it a short time ago but the idea of blogging and communicating on a blog is new to me.  Comfort zone …. Where? Can’t wait to tweet … YIKES.

Anyway, Affiliate Theme is a fresh new WordPress theme built for affiliate marketers and for bloggers who build landing pages, review sites, and other mini-sites for niche products and offers. I’m not 100% sure what all this is about but there are a lot of gurus with podcasts. It’s great for a newbie like me!

Now, Alex Jeffreys is going to be holding my hand for a while and I will share. With any luck, you will let me learn online marketing with you!
