Affiliate Marketing Using Clickbank

Online Affiliate Marketing Marketplace

Affiliate Marketing ClickbankOne of the most used product marketplaces online is Clickbank. Offering only digital download products, Clickbank (CB) not only allows sellers to post their product for sale but handles the processing of payment when product is purchased and the payment to affiliates of commissions earned. Opening a CB account is straight forward and requires only that you meet their guidelines and provide the information about yourself that CB requests.

Your User Name

One decision made when you join CB is what your “user name” will be. That user name will appear in the links created for the items you decide to sell. For that reason it’s good to choose a name that is directed toward customers rather than one that reflects your goals. It can be challenging to find a good user name as there are many accounts on CB but it’s worth trying to find a name that is customer friendly. For example, “infonow” is preferable to “mybigmoney”. If most phrases you think of are unavailable, get creative. “Info2you” is still preferable to “mymoney”.

Digital Products

To sell a product offered through Clickbank (digital products only), go to Clickbank and select a category and choose a subcategory. Type in the keyword you have chosen and sort the results by popularity and then by gravity. Gravity represents the number of affiliates who have been paid commission selling this product. It is not a true total but a percentage that represents recent activity in sales. High gravity numbers represent a product that sells well. Popularity is also important as newer products will not yet have a high gravity number.

In your search for Clickbank products the first ten results are usually the best selling items in that category.

Should you choose one and get started?

Nope. You aren’t ready yet to make that choice. Visit the sales pages of the sellers by clicking “view pitch page”. Is the sales page attractive and well done? Is there an eye catching headline? Does the product seller provide images and suggested ads for affiliates to use? If you were a customer looking for a solution to your problem – would this page be of interest?

Also give consideration to the amount or percentage of commission paid. Promoting products that pay less than $20 per sale is usually not wise. If three products in a category have high gravity and popularity it only makes sense to promote the one that pays the highest commission.

Look at the payment methods. Does the seller have all payments being made through Clickbank or does he offer an alternate payment method from his sales page? If his “buy” links do not lead to a Clickbank page you may not earn the commission even when you send visitors to that page.

Hoplinks

Affiliate links are called “hoplinks” in Clickbank and can be generated on the site and then pasted into your site or blog. That link is tracked by a cookie placed on the computer of anyone who visits the sales page through your link. Clickbank operates on a “last cookie” basis thus a customer who visits your product promotion page but then returns directly to the seller’s page will still generate a commission for you. However, if they order by going through another affiliate’s link, you will not be paid commission.

There is much discusson online about affiliate link theft in connection with Clickbank. This is easily avoided by using a redirect link or script that hides your CB affiliate link. The most common link theft occurs in the “work at home” or “make money” categories where those who are looking for the product already understand the affiliate model and may buy through their own Clickbank link. There’s not much you can do about that except avoid those niches. Products in those categories that appeal to the newest sector of internet marketers usually aren’t much affected by link theft.

Affiliate Marketing Tips to Increase Sales with PPC

PPC Advertising

Pay per click advertising is a great way to generate immediate traffic to your affiliate product landing page. If you run the campaign correctly, you can significantly increase your sales conversion ratio.

If you are affiliate marketing with pay per click, there are a few easy steps you can do to create a successful campaign and earn a profitable return on your investment.

Tips on Increasing Affiliate Product Sales with Pay Per Click

Affiliate Marketing with PPC

Do Your Research: Before you settle on an affiliate product niche, take the time to research the market to find out what is required to produce a profit. This includes researching ads and keywords, reading product feedback in forums, and finding ads that are producing a high return on investment.

Apply Keywords:
Create PPC ads that include the appropriate keywords and that have relevancy to your affiliate product. If you write an ad with irrelevant content, you will waste your money because visitors will click through and then click away from your site because it is not what they expected.

(Extra Tip: When you find PPC ads on the right hand side of the Google search engine that are relevant to your affiliate product, keep refreshing the page. The ads that are left are the ones that are producing a profit.)

Keyword Bidding: Avoid bidding on terms that are too broad because you will end up losing money on your affiliate marketing campaign. For example, if your affiliate product is vitamins, do not bid on the single term “vitamins.”

When people type in this term you have to ask yourself, “What exactly is it that they are looking for?” They could be searching for a certain brand, type, or simply trying to find out which vitamins do what. You don’t know. However, if they type in “B-Complex” you have a better idea what they are looking for.

Once you have found the keywords that you want to bid on be careful not to bid too high because this can kill your advertising budget very fast. Although higher bids get higher rankings in the search results, it is best to start out gradually.

Test Your Campaign: Keep testing your affiliate marketing campaign and then make the necessary changes. Although this can take some time, effective testing will guarantee a high return on your investment. Your Google advertising account provides many tools to make testing a lot easier.

Coordinate Campaign Components:
Make sure all of the components of your affiliate marketing campaign line up. Your PPC ad should reflect what is on your landing page and vice versa. Additionally, your keywords should line up with both the landing page and ad components.

Keyword Phrases:
Once you have a set of keywords that are working well, extend your campaign to include additional keyword phrases. Make sure your existing keywords are working before you move to expand your affiliate campaign.

Taking these steps will ensure that you create a profitable and successful affiliate marketing campaign. Although it may seem like a lot, you will most likely find that the results are worth the time investment.

Affiliate Marketing Tools for Choosing a Niche Product

Affiliate Marketing and Picking a Niche

Choosing a Niche ProductWhen choosing a niche product for an affiliate marketing campaign, most affiliates immediately log onto Clickbank, choose the product with the highest commission and the most popularity, and start the campaign.  While Clickbank is a great way to find an affiliate product niche, there are other unique tools you can use to choose an affiliate product.

Open Directory

Open Directory websites list hundreds of thousands of websites that offer affiliate products.  One of the largest Open Directory sites on the Internet is Dmoz.org which provides a way for you to drill deep down and find a very specific niche affiliate product with low competition.

Dmoz has over 4,000,000 websites with over 700,000 categories in which you can search for an affiliate niche product.

  • How to Search for an Affiliate Product Niche

Using the “Shopping” category as an example, we will choose a niche from the category such as “Home and Garden.”  From this category we can choose a sub-category such as “Outdoor Structures.”  From here you can get more specific by choosing “Greenhouses.”  Under this category you can start to see more specific niche products related to the broader term of “Home and Garden.”

From there you can get into more specifics such as cedar greenhouses and then search under that topic for specific niche affiliate products.  Once you find a specific product you can go to the Dmoz home page and use the Advanced Search feature to research websites that are offering your product.  You can find out how they are offering them and get ideas as to what you can do differently.

From there you can proceed to the Internet and Google to start your keyword research and begin to construct your affiliate marketing campaign.

Ebay Pulse

Ebay Pulse is another unique tool for locating an affiliate product niche.  You can access Ebay Pulse by logging onto:  http://pulse.ebay.com.  As soon as you arrive at the home page you will see the most popular products features. Do not waste your time considering one of these products because you will be unable to find a unique niche, due to the fact the market is so saturated with these products. Instead you will need to dig deeper into the popular searches.

  • Searching Ebay Pulse

Choose a product that interests you and that you are knowledgeable about and then begin with “Category.”  We will use “cell phone” as an example.  When you type in “cell phone” you will once again receive a list of popular searches.  These are still too broad so you will need to dig deeper.

Go to Subcategories and choose an item related to cell phones such as cell phone accessories.  Go a little further into the subcategories by clicking on the menu for the popular searches.  This will take you to more specifics like cell phone cases and from there you can dig further such as brands of cell phone cases, etc.

Once you discover a unique product it is time to start researching the product on the Internet and discovering what keywords are being used to locate the product and the kind of traffic that is generated from the keywords.  Once you have accomplished this, check the Ebay search results to see if there is an adequate supply of products.

Finally, choose a domain, create your landing page, and set up a pay per click affiliate marketing campaign.
